Study: Cell Phone Use In Pregnancy Poses Risks To Developing Fetus

STUDY: CELL PHONE USE IN PREGNANCY POSES RISKS TO DEVELOPING FETUS

Researchers at the helm of a multi-university, multi-country study have concluded that pregnant women who use cell phones during pregnancy a more prone to give birth to children who go on to suffer from hyperactivity disorders and other problems in childhood.

Researchers at UCLA, Univ. of California and the University of Aarthus, in Denmark, interviewed more than 13,000 children over a seven year period. They claim children of women who used cell phones during pregnancy and children who used cell phones themselves in early childhood were more prone to behavioral disorders than were children of women who didn’t use cell phones and who never used the devices themselves.

The scientists claimed that their interviews with women in Denmark led them to conclude that cell phone use during pregnancy resulted in the women being more than 50 percent more likely to have children who went on to have behavioral problems. In addition, children born of women who used cell phones were 25 percent more likely to have such problems than were their peers whose mothers hadn’t used cell phones while pregnant.

The scientists admitted they had identified no biological mechanisms that could explain their findings.

The study is to be published in the July issue of the Journal of Epidemiology.
