AMBULATORY BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR

Ambulatory blood pressure monitors are small devices that patients wear to check their blood pressure on an on-going basis.

Medical equipment manufacturers make ambulatory blood pressure monitors as physician equipment so that doctors can monitor patients’ blood pressure closely. Ambulatory blood pressure monitors are small enough to be carried on a person’s belt and the blood pressure cuff can be worn on an arm under a person’s clothing.

An ambulatory blood pressure monitor records blood pressure readings at pre-set intervals such as every 30 minutes, and keeps an electronic record of the results that doctors can read. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is important if patients have borderline high blood pressure, their blood pressure varies or if it is aggravated by medications that they are taking.
