ANKLE BRACHIAL INDEX EQUIPMENT

The ankle brachial index is a medical test that compares blood pressure in an ankle with that in an arm. Medical equipment manufacturers make ankle brachial index equipment to aid physicians in diagnosing blood flow through extremities.

The ankle brachial equipment consists of a Doppler, an ultrasound device that detects the sound of blood flow through arteries, coupled with a blood pressure cuff worn around the ankle. The ankle brachial equipment helps the doctor determine if blood flow to extremities is diminished, a condition called peripheral artery disease or PAD. Ankle brachial equipment is used in medical offices to diagnose PAD on an outpatient basis.
