CLIA-waived drugs of abuse kits are medical equipment that is used to test patient bodily fluid samples such as urine, saliva or blood for the presence of drugs of abuse or their metabolic byproducts. CLIA stands for “Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.” This is a group of regulations promulgated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that set clinical laboratory testing standards. CLIA-waived refers to testing devices that are simple in operation and have been cleared by the FDA for use by existing physician office staff...

CLIA-waived drugs of abuse kits are simple to use and unlikely to result in inaccurate results when used in physician offices and clinics that do not have CLIA approved clinical laboratories.
