Hemoglobin
Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells (RBCs). Hemoglobin is the main component of RBCs that links to oxygen and transports it throughout the body. When hemoglobin combines with oxygen in an RBC it is referred to oxyhemoglobin and is what causes oxygenated blood to appear bright red in color. Hemoglobin is one of the most commonly measured patient laboratory values.
